SSH, which is an abbreviation for Secure Shell, is a network protocol that is used to exchange protected data between a client and a hosting server, which makes it impossible for unauthorized parties to intercept any data. Many tech-savvy users choose SSH due to the enhanced level of security. The connection is created and the commands are sent using a command line. The available options depend on the type of web hosting service - on a shared server, in particular, files can be moved or deleted, databases may be imported and exported, and archives may be set up or unpacked. On a virtual or a dedicated server, the choices are a lot more - the web server and the database server could be started/stopped/rebooted, server-side software may be installed and more. These things aren't possible on a shared server, due to the fact that full root access is needed and all the other clients on that server shall be affected. Even though SSH is employed mainly with UNIX-like Operating Systems, there are SSH clients for other OSs too - Windows, Mac OS, etc.

SSH Telnet in Shared Website Hosting

SSH access is offered with all shared website hosting plans that we offer you. With some of them, it's offered as standard, while with others it is an additional upgrade you can include with several mouse clicks in your website hosting CP. You can get SSH access from the section dedicated to it in which you shall also find the information which you need to connect - the host, the port number and the username. You can choose the password that you shall use and, if needed, you will be able to modify it with a few clicks from the same location. All the commands that could be used with our shared plans are listed within a help article together with relevant examples. If the SSH access function is enabled for your account, you will also be able to upload files through your preferred FTP client via an SFTP connection.

SSH Telnet in Semi-dedicated Servers

SSH access is provided as standard with some of our semi-dedicated server solutions, while with others you will be able to add it from the hosting Control Panel if needed - even just for the current month. In either case, you are able to activate and de-activate the feature with one click from the SSH section of the Control Panel. In the same location, you'll see the server name, the port number and the username required to connect to our platform. You will also find a box in which you could type in the password that you would like to use, because it does not need to be the same as the one you use to log into the CP. For better protection, you can also change it as much as you require. The full list of the commands which can be executed inside a semi-dedicated account is supplied in our Knowledge Base, alongside the syntax and several examples. An extra function after SSH access is enabled will be the ability to connect to your hosting space via SFTP using any FTP client that supports this sort of connections.

SSH Telnet in VPS Servers

You'll be able to use SSH to handle your content regardless which VPS plans you choose when you sign up, as all our packages provide this feature as standard. You will not have to include or activate anything manually - immediately after your server is ready and you receive the Welcome e-mail with the login details, you may connect and begin working on your sites or any software that you want to install and run on the server. You shall have root-level access to the VPS and because the account shall be separated from all of the other accounts inside the physical server, you will be able to do anything you'd like without any restrictions. You may set up any app which you need and which will work on a Linux-based machine, restart any software server (web, database, game, media, etc.) and work with your files and databases efficiently.
