SPF, which is an acronym for Sender Policy Framework, is an email protection system, which is designed to confirm whether an e-mail message is sent by a licensed server. Using SPF protection for a given domain name will prevent the faking of emails made with the domain. In layman's terms: activating this feature for a domain generates a special record in the Domain Name System (DNS) which contains the IP of the servers that are allowed to send e-mails from mailboxes under the domain. The moment this record propagates worldwide, it exists on all of the DNS servers that direct the Internet traffic. Whenever an email message is sent, the initial DNS server it goes through tests if it comes from an authorized server. If it does, it is forwarded to the destination address, however if it doesn't originate from a server indexed in the SPF record for the particular domain, it's discarded. Thus nobody will mask an email address then make it look as if you're sending spam messages. This method is also termed email spoofing.

SPF Protection in Shared Website Hosting

If you host your domain names in a shared website hosting account on our end and we manage the e-mails for them, you are able to enable SPF protection for them with a few clicks inside your Hepsia Control Panel. The service can be found in a separate section where you're able to see which domains are already protected. For the ones that aren't, you'll be able to activate the SPF protection option and manage a lot of things in the process - the hostnames of the mail servers that are allowed to send messages from your emails, the IPv4 and IPv6 addresses of these servers, and to create a rule that emails can be sent only when your domain names include our MX records. The last choice is the most secure one, and it can be used when we take care of the e-mails for your domains and you're not using some other e-mail supplier. The newly generated records will propagate within one day and nobody will be able to fake the FROM field in an email using your e-mail addresses.

SPF Protection in Semi-dedicated Servers

The SPF protection attribute is provided with all semi-dedicated hosting plans, so in case you host your domains in an account on our cloud website hosting platform, you will be able to activate this particular service without difficulty for all of your domains. The Hepsia Control Panel, which is included with the semi-dedicated accounts, offers a rather user-friendly interface, therefore you won't have to be tech-savvy to secure your e-mails. You will simply have to type the hostname and the IP of each mail server that you'd like to be authorized to send out e-mails from your addresses and right after that the new record will be active for the domain name that you've picked. As an additional option, we also allow you to restrict your outgoing emails and secure your mailboxes further by allowing e-mail messages to be sent only if the domain name involved includes our MX records i.e. the e-mail messages for the domain need to be handled here and not by some other provider. By doing so you will get even superior control and there will not be any chances for someone to counterfeit your email addresses for harmful objectives.
